GREAT NEWS!!!

FLOWER IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!!!

Flower is a sweet, loving, happy-go-lucky dog with a wonderful well-rounded disposition! Nothing gets this girl down! She has a sunny personality, and everyone that's ever met her has loved her immediately! (And Flower has loved them back!)

Flower throughly enjoys cuddling and being with her people, but is fine when left alone as well. She plays wonderfully with her foster parents two larger dogs (she likes to think she is the boss!), and absolutely loves to run around in their fenced-in yard! She is all terrier when it comes to "chase" though, so we're not sure how she will do living with cats.

Although her Pulmonic Stenosis has been surgically corrected, Flower will still need to have her heart monitored. Her cardiologist at OSU doesn't anticipate her having any problems in the future, but has recommended that she get an annual echocardiogram of her heart to ensure it remains healthy and that the vessels do not begin to constrict again.

Otherwise, Flower doesn't have any resctictions as far as activity, etc., and is expected to live a long, normal and healthy life!  =)  She certainly has NO idea that she's different from other dogs, and runs and plays with the best of them!

Flower is approx. 2.5 years old, 9lbs., and is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, dewormed, heartworm negative and on monthly flea/heartworm preventative. She is also housebroken, crate-trained, walks well on lead with a harness and knows some basic commands. We would prefer to see her go to a home with a fenced-in yard, but it's not required.

Flower's adoption fee is $250.

Flower had her post-surgical echocardiogram on 1/11, and her heart is healing beautifully!

The cardiologist has graded her as having only mild stenosis now, which is considered to be a huge surgical success! We are SO very happy, as this means she will live a long and happy life!!!

Flower will be getting spayed in March and will then be ready for adoption!!!

Flower's heart surgery at OSU 12/8 was a SUCCESS! She is recovering in her foster home and is doing amazing!

 Thank you so much to everyone that helped us with our fundraising, or generously donated towards her surgical costs!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 9/2010: The cardiology department at OSU has quoted us $2,500-$2,600 for the Balloon Valvulopasty surgery Flower desperately needs. The good news is that the vast majority of dogs that have this procedure go on to live normal, healthy lives! Sadly though, without this surgery, Flower's lifespan will be drastically shortened - the cardiologist said most dogs only live to be 3 to 4 years old without treatment. We love Flower very much, and will do everything we can to help her to be healthy and happy! Please help us help her by donating towards her surgical costs. Every little bit helps, and the sooner we can raise all the money, the sooner she can have her life-saving surgery! (Payment is required in full at the time of service at OSU.)
 6/2010: Flower has been diagnosed with Pulmonic (Pulmonary) Stenosis, a heart defect that results in narrowing of one of the heart valves (the pulmonic valve).  The pulmonary artery carries blood from the right ventricle to the lungs. Because Pulmonic Stenosis causes narrowing of this vessel or its valves, normal blood flow is impeded.Without normal pressure, not enough blood can pass through the vein and enter the lungs. To compensate, the right side of the heart must pump harder. This enlarges its muscles and size. The right side of the heart becomes overworked and prone to failure. (To learn more about Pulmonic Stenosis, please click here or here.)
Despite everything, Flower is a happy, loving and sweet girl who deserves a chance at a wonderful life!
