Tater was surrendered to us on St. Patrick's Day by an Amish puppy mill/breeder after she was attacked by another dog and suffered severe trauma to both front legs. The breeder didn't want to pay for medical care, and so she faced euthanasia. We obviously couldn't let that happen, so we agreed to take her on!
Tater was adopted not long after she recovered, but was recently returned as it wasn't the best match with her and her doggie housemate.
** We're currently looking for a FOSTER TO ADOPT home for our girl! **
Since coming back to us, we've had Tater professionally obedience trained, as we want her to be the best girl she can be! She's a TOTAL lovebug with people, and is silly, playful, affectionate and cuddly. If you look up GOOFBALL, I'm pretty sure you'll find a pic of Tater!
Tater is an 8-month-old Beabull (Beagle/Bulldog mix), and is 30lbs, spayed, microhipped, up to date on vaccines, dewormed, and current on monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention. She's house and crate trained, walks well on leash, enjoys going for car rides, and knows basic commands. She's always down for an adventure, but she's pretty darn good at being a couch Tater too! She's cuter than heck and has the BEST little toothy smile! If you're in the market for an outgoing, happy go lucky, affectionate potato dog, you may have found your perfect girl!
Tater has started to show some pain in her elbows, and she will be seeing an orthopedic doctor in October for an evaluation. It's possible she has damage secondary to the trauma she suffered as a small puppy, which didn't present itself until she got older and heavier. (Her body could compensate when she was younger and there wasn't as much weight being carried on her joints.) It is possible she will require orthopedic surgery, which the rescue will cover.
Her ideal forever home is one where she can the only pet so she can get all the love and attention! It's important to note that Tater is not dog aggressive, and can share toys, go for pack walks, and loves romping in the yard with other pups. Her issue is resource guarding her humans, which has been the primary focus of her rehabilitation and training. However, for her long-term success and happiness, we'd prefer an only pet home for her.
An experienced dog owner is preferred, and her family will also have to be comfortable with caring for her post-op should she require medical intervention for her elbows. (Again, the rescue will cover this expense!)
