Mishka, (which means "little bear"), is a 6 month old purebred Husky puppy that came to us critically ill in March. She was originally purchased by a pet store with the intent to sell, but when they realized how sick she was, they surrendered her to us so she could receive much needed medical care.

We rushed Mishka right to the ER as soon as we picked her up, as she was ghost white pale, and so weak she was unable to stand. Our vets quickly determined that she was critically (near death) anemic secondary to a GI bleed of unknown origin, and gave her a guarded prognosis, even with intensive treatment and round the clock hospitalization and care. THREE emergency blood transfusions later, we were able to get her stabilized, and thankfully she started to turn the corner. After a week in hospital, we were able to bring Mishka home, and she's been doing great since! We will never know the exact cause of her GI bleed; it could have been anything from a heavy internal parasite burden, to dietary indiscretion, to trauma secondary to passing an ingested foreign object. We're just happy that she's fully recovered and ready to start her new leash on life!

Mishka came to us very nervous and unsocialized. We've worked hard to get her to feel more comfortable with people, and she's made great strides! (Thankfully she's VERY food motivated!) She'll probably always be an independent woman, but she is tolerant of and enjoys pets, scritches, and belly rubs. She'll follow you all around the house and wants to be where you are, she just isn't typically one to solicit attention. She's still a little skittish and hand shy at times, but with on going work and patience, she should continue to make improvements. Every time I get a little kiss or see her go up to a person, I cheer a little on the inside!

Despite her shyness, Mish is easy to handle and tolerant of us brushing her, bathing her, and trimming her toenails. She's good at the vet too, and thoroughly enjoys getting string cheese as a reward for being well behaved for vaccines, etc.! (Honestly, she'll do just about anything for food!)

Mishka may be shy with people, but she absolutely adores other dogs! She lights up around them, and loves to run and play and be part of the pack. A new home with another confident dog to be her buddy and to help show her the ropes would be ideal!

The perfect forever home for Mish would be one with Husky, (or similar breed), experience, one with no small children, no cats, and a friendly dog or two to be her teachers and friends! A securely fenced yard is required. No apartments or condos for this girl!

Because of her near fatal GI bleed, we are waiting for her to be a little older and larger before having her spayed. This will give her body time to rest, recover, and produce enough new red blood cells to normalize. Due to this, we are releasing her on a foster to adopt, and will finalize her adoption only after her vetting is complete in a couple months. This means that she must stay local to the NE Ohio/Cleveland area.

Mishka is very smart and food motivated. She is crate trained, (though she will Husky howl in there sometimes), walks well on leash, and is working on housetraining. She is nervous in the car, but rides quietly and calmly. She's good in the house, and while she'll occasionally pick up and move a shoe, she hasn't chewed on or destroyed anything she shouldn't. She can be mischievous, mouthy, and sometimes a little noisy. (Hey, she's a Husky!) She loves to be a little piglet and play and lay in puddles and mud. Thankfully she's small enough she's easy to plop in the tub for a quick bath!

Mish is 6 months old, currently around 23 lbs, and we guesstimate that she'll be a petite girl at around 35-40 lbs or so when full grown. She will be spayed prior to finalizing her adoption, and is microchipped, dewormed, up to date on vaccines, and on monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention.

Her adoption fee is $350.
